If you are another race, other than white, is it harder to get a job in modelling?
This is a question that really made me curious.
Can modelling be based on race? Do most modelling agencies pick white people to advertise? Can agencies be racist? Or is it based on the product they are advertising?

This industry seems campaign specific. If you have the right look for the campaign, you get the job regardless of your race.
I don’t think it has anything to do with racism.
My theory is:
In America, as the majority is white, they want to have a model that most people can relate to.
I used to live in New York, now I live in Hong Kong. For example over here, most models are Asian, it’s just got to do with the majority of customers, and how well they can relate to it.
It should not be a barrier, but on the other hand how many colored super models are there? I am sure it is not due to lack of colored applicants.
i doubt it x
you only need the Style and your in good luck
no. You just need to be tall, thin and photogenic
Agencies aren’t really racist, they are just extremely discriminatory. They have strict standards and rather not stray from that. Not to fat, not to light, not to dark, not this not that…
The agencies themselves are not racist - they will have models on their books to fit their clients needs. But the reality is, so many clients are not asking for darker skinned models. How many do you see in Vogue, Bazaar, Elle, etc? How many do you see in national ad campaigns, whether for designers like D&G or Prada, or even things like Campbells Soup or laundry detergent? How many darker skinned models do you see on the catwalks at NY, London, Milan or Paris fashion weeks?
It’s the industry as a whole who still believe a dark face will not sell as many magazines, clothes or products as a white face.
If the magazines, designers, editors and ad agencies started requesting more darker skinned models, the agencies would start signing more of them.
